Substantialism Manifesto
neuauflage zur eröffnung

"just as good" betrifft meine Arbeit aus allen Schaffensphasen, ist meine Behauptung über meine Arbeiten
im Vergleich untereinander und der Beweis, dass alle Arbeiten Reflexionen derselben Absicht sind.
Diese wurde 1996 im "Substantialism Manifesto" beschrieben. Es erscheint eine Neuauflage zum Ausstellungstermin.

Manifesto

There was a time that the modernists could say: First of all what you see is canvas and paint, first of all everything is substance. Since then we have evolved in a material world with a plethora of substances and still our understanding of the word substance is not clear.

Substantialism states that the soul is substance. The plethora of information that we get is not just a picture on a magazine, it is not the child that cries on a photograph begging for attention to give money to a philanthropic association but the soul that cries. Our conscious is controlling our reality and substantialism brings awareness to our reality and to the essence of things. The question of what you don't have this yet? Computer, television, car or peace is not a material question but one that goes into the soul. How much information can we create that does not effect the soul? None is the answer. It is the time where what we think appears, happens and is felt. You want to see war you can turn on the news. You want to see the president you can have him in your livingroom. He/she is there not just on television but their body energy and soul in you. The modern society abused substance since it lost its meaning and has forgotten that in everything there is soul. It is not anymore a photograph of some people that advertise their music group it is the body of their soul. A painting is a soul, the image is not just material, it is the soul appearing. How much more free can this responsibility make us? The question is bound to change. It is not anymore do you have this yet, it is what does the soul want to tell me. Substantialism frees you from substance, it directs and prepares your conscious. All we do is create imagery from which you can evolve. That is what the soul tells us. It has to do with our memory and our respect towards the "body" and by body we mean all body. Substantialism is the next step, the only step we can believe to connect us with our memory of the soul. No other art form has made this clearer than this one now. We are grateful of the steps history made in our conscious, we are grateful that the mass production can only backfire and remind us of the individual. No matter how hard is given to us the reality of banal substance the easier it is for us to look into our body and soul.

Substantialism is not idealistic or romantic. It is the freedom of conscious, reality and body to accept the soul. Art is soul, you are soul, you are substantialism. We are ready for the absolute plethora of soul expression. Each one a whole, seperate and connected, ready to see the unknown and face the known. We are open, we are substantialism.

Walter Gundolf Biographie

Wenn mein Leben gut ist, dann ist es genau so gut wie es ist. Und wenn es anders wäre, wäre es nicht schlechter, weil es immer noch vergleichbar wäre.

Gundolf, Walter, österr. Maler, Bildhauer, *6.6.1960 Innsbruck, lebt in Telfs. Sohn von Martin G. oo Malerin Eudokia G. (geb. Kalliarekos, *1966). Stud.: 1978-87 HS für darstellende Kunst Mozarteum, Salzburg, bei Peter Prandstetter (Malerei) und HS für angew. Kunst, Wien, bei Ernst Caramelle und Peter Weibel. Seit 1987 freischaffend. 1991 Preise beim 22. Österr. Graphik-Wettb. und beim Kunst-Wettb. der Fa. Schenker; 1994 Atelier-Stip. des Landes Tirol für Pirgi/Insel Chios. –
G. kreiert  seit den späten 1980er Jahren in Prozessen spielerisch-assoziativer Formfindung Figuren und Charaktere, die er zunächst als Prototypen in Zeichnungen notiert und in Gemälden, temporären Wandmalereien und Skulpturen (Bronze, Betonguss, Papiermaché, etc.) weiterverarbeitet. G. bezeichnet diese Figuren als Freunde oder Hilfsarbeiter, mit denen er sich als den durchgängigen Protagonisten verschiedener Bildserien und Werkreihen eine fiktive Welt als Reflexionsebene erschafft. G. erkundet die Dimension der Seele in einem vielschichtigen und ganzheitlichen Sinn, der nicht nur die eigene und allgemein-menschliche Konstitution der Psyche sondern sämtliche Parameter des Lebens und der modernen Zivilisation umfasst. Basierend auf der philosophischen Idee, welche die Seele als eine Substanz, ein dinghaftes Wesen begreift, malt G. 1996 gleichsam als paradigmatisches Werk dieses über die Jahre langsam gewachsenen Konzepts die Substantialistische Figur (Öl auf Leinwand) und veröffentlicht gemeinsam mit der Malerin Eudokia G. das Substantialism Manifesto.
